Writer’s Series: Dr. Carlton Long, Editor of “Mannish Water”

February 4 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free
A Celebration of Black History Month
Carlton Long is a Rhodes Scholar and international consultant who was trained in practical theology at Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta and in political science at DePauw University, Columbia University, and the University of Oxford. He is Dean of the Graduate College and Director of the Freddye T. Davy Honors College at Hampton University. He is co-editor of the newly released Mannish Water.
In Caribbean culture, Mannish Water is a soup, also known as Goat Head Soup, with meat, bone, and vegetables most often made by men for everyday consumption and celebrations. In this rare collection of new and previously unpublished essays, this nonfiction anthology allows Black scholarly men to blend their professional and personal journeys through a variety of issues, where “each story is a testament to its narrators; enduring spirit and complexity, shedding light on the systemic issues that have long plagued Black communities.”
